Molybdenum is a trace mineral. Recent research is finding that Molybdenum can be very important for proper nutrition. Molybdenum is used by the body in making three critical enzymes. One of these enzymes, sulfite oxidase, is involved in sulfur metabolism, which is so critical in anyone carrying a high toxic burden. Using sulfur supplements or medications may lower molybdenum levels. Low molybdenum can, in turn, cause sulfur reactions. Another of the three enzymes, aldehyde oxidase, is involved in helping over 150 drugs and toxins detoxify from the body. For this reason, supplemental molybdenum may support the health of chemically sensitive individuals. Molybdenum supplementation may assist in normalizing zinc levels. Zinc is critical for detoxification and a healthy immune system. People who have high copper levels are low in zinc.
